Milk
Did you know that humans are not supposed to drink cow’s milk? According to scientists, foods rich in animal proteins can deplete calcium stores found in our bones. Another reason milk should not be consumed is due to the missing presence of the enzyme lactase found in many adults. Despite all of these valid reasons for not partaking in cow’s milk, I still find myself pining for a cheese and chicken quesadilla from Tropical Smoothie Cafe from time to time. However, I do know many people who refuse to partake in dairy including a fellow co-worker of mine. During a recent discussion about cow’s milk, however, he failed to reference either of those reasonings above to explain why cow’s milk is not good for you. His main argument was that cow’s milk is for cows therefore we should not drink it. And although that was an interesting reason, it wasn’t enough for me. Personally. I like to do research and make a decision based off that. I would not completely write off cow’s milk because someone said “you aren’t supposed to.” I think my co-worker failed to fully utilize his sight given his ability to see. This leads to my interpretation of Keller’s words in two parts. The first interprets the subject in question to lack motivation to perform a task. For example, my co-worker was not intrinsically motivated(the vision) to find out the damage cow’s milk actually causes. Additionally, I also believe that Keller feels it is a shame to have the means and resources to do something and yet you still don’t do it i.e. not looking up the drawbacks of cow’s milk on the ever prevalent internet full of untapped knowledge. Living this way only heeds regret, so live for now whenever possible.
